Wow! I never knew this sordid history of apples. I haven't touched a red delicious since childhood. We have a TON of apple orchards in Wisconsin with Macintosh, Jonagold, Honey Crisp, Crimson Crisp, Macoun, Courtland. They're all so *actually* delicious!
